ICL Food Specialties won the 2019 FI Innovation Award: Protein Category at the Fi Innovation Awards Ceremony held on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 in Paris, France.
The winning product was ROVITARIS® FBX 360, a texturized protein extracted from faba bean.
This win is the culmination of months of hard work from a very talented team. The process was truly a team effort of global proportions spearheaded by the technical expertise of Jane Whittinghill and supported by the team of Karl Bradler, Brandon Williams, George Svetlak, Alex Gruber, Guilherme Menezes and Nancy Stachiw.
With almost 200 entries into the Innovation Contest, ICL was up against some tough competition with key industry players in the protein field including: Arla Foods Ingredients, Ebro Ingredients and Kerry.
“The ICL Food Specialties team’s work with alternative protein is second to none. We are leading the charge with new protein solutions in the meatless category. As the first company to launch this exciting faba bean technology we continue to deliver on-trend solutions. The industry continues to seek new and innovative solutions from alternative proteins, and we stay ahead of the curve by leveraging our expertise and top-notch talent. – Karl Bradler, business director alternative proteins, ICL Food Specialties.
The Fi Innovation Awards, organized by Fi Global as part of the Fi Europe 2019 trade show, honors professionals and companies for their ability to demonstrate and stimulate innovation, and for their contribution to the industry. The event highlights and recognizes companies from around the globe that deliver innovative solutions, services or ingredients that meet current industry challenges across 11 food categories.
The months long process included an abstract and idea submission which was then reviewed by judging panel. Finalists were then selected to present their concepts to a jury. Category nominees then had just 10 minutes to present their concepts to an eight-member judging panel of industry experts that included food technologists, trade journalists, industry management and market analysts. Jane Whittinghill represented ICL in this presentation and wowed the judges with a standout presentation and prototype sampling of the faba bean technology in a meatball application.
The rest, as we say, is now “Winning History”. Congratulations again to the ICL Food Specialties team.
